Recommended or Best Restaurants in Newfoundland

Newfoundland is coming of age in terms of restaurants. There is now more variety and quality than ever before. Here are some restaurants we have tried and can fully recommend.

St Christopher's Hotel in Port aux Basquesnew4.gif (987 bytes)

We stayed here recently for the Feather and Folk Nature Festival and had dinner and breakfast here. For dinner we had the cod dinner which had 2 generous portion of pan fried cod with veggies and a fresh dinner roll. All for just $12.99. For breakfast we had the fishcakes which were equally good. This hotel also has a great view of the harbour although when we were there it was foggy so the view was more subdued. It makes a great base for anyone spending time at the Feather and Folk Nature Festival. For more information see:

Norseman Restaurant, L'anse aux MeadowsThe Norseman Restaurant serves some of the best food in the province and it consistently ranks well is guide books and restaurant surveys. It also offers entertainment from local musicians to dinner theatre. When we were recently there I had lobster and my wife had halibut, both of which were delicious. The vegetables were very tasty and be sure to try their "Iceberg Martini". And if you are interested in fine crafts they also have the small Gaia Art Gallery. For more pictures, click Norseman.
Lightkeepers, Fishing Point, St. Anthony, NL

The Lightkeepers must have one of the best views for a restaurant in Western Newfoundland. It sits on fishing point with the open Atlantic on its doorstep. It is adjacent to various viewpoints where you can spot whales and icebergs in season. Although we saw no whales from the window we did see several icebergs. They have lots of seafood on the menu and we had the fisherman's platter which was tasty and filling. Click Lightkeepers for more pictures.
